Lesson 17 The Work and Ministry of the Holy Spirit

I realize that we've spent a considerable amount of time here on speaking in tongues or praying in the Holy Spirit.  The reason is that this subject has become one of the most important role of the Holy Spirit in the Church today.  Through Him we have direct contact and intimate fellowship with the Father.
We find the account of the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11:5-8 (Amplified) and what the Lord Himself says about this incident is very interesting.  Thus, it says, ""And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built."  Verse 6 says, "And the Lord said, Behold, they are of one people and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do, and now nothing they have imagined they can do will be impossible to them."  Verses 7-8 go on, "Come, let Us go down and there confound (mix up, confuse) their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from the place upon the face of the whole earth, and they gave up  building the city."
It has always seemed strange to me how the Lord only changed their communication to stop the building of the city.  God Himself said that now they are of "one language" and of "one people" and "now nothing will be impossible for them to do."  So, in order to stop their building, God stopped their communication.
When the Lord gave birth to the Church and was in the process of building a new city (the New Jerusalem), He restored communication and made us "one people" and "one language" again.  Acts 2:16-18 (Amplified) says, "But (instead) this is (the beginning of) what was spoken through the Prophet Joel. And it shall come to pas in the last days, God declares, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and daughters shall prophesy (telling forth divine counsels) and your young men shall see visions (divinely granted appearances) and your old men shall dream (divinely suggested) dreams. Yes, and on My men servants also and on My maid servants in those days I will pour out of My Spirit and they shall prophesy (telling forth the divine counsels and predicting future events pertaining especially to God's Kingdom."
This one language and one people were meant to return the communication in which God Himself said would cause "Now nothing they have imagined will be impossible to them."  1Corinthians 14:2 (Amplified) says, "For one who speaks in an (unknown) tongue speaks not to men but to God. For no one understands or catches his meaning, because  in the Spirit (Holy Spirit) he utters secret truths and hidden things (not obvious to the understanding)."
Through the Holy Spirit, we have now become one people (the Body of Christ) and we are all in one accord in the building of God's Kingdom.  And, we're all speaking in one language, which is the language of Spirit.  Now, nothing we have imagined is impossible to us.
Satan has fought ferociously against the language of the Spirit because nothing is impossible to us with it.  He has built "doctrines of devils" concerning it and has tried to shut down the communication line between God and the Church.  We can only speak things we know if we depend only on our own language, but our wisdom is unlimited in the Holy Spirit;.  We can pray prayers that our spirit can only understand through the Holy Spirit.
If you're praying only in your native, natural tongue, then satan's first attack is to tell you that your prayers aren't working.  If you are praying in tongues, then he can't bring doubt concerning what you've prayed because he doesn't know what you prayed.  When a man speaks in unknown tongues, "he speaks not unto men, but unto God and in the spirit he speaks mysteries" that even satan cannot fathom.
This is a weapon that satan has no deference for other than to stop it altogether with his lies about it's origin.  I've been praying in Spirit to the Lord on many occasions and have seen things in my town, state and country change.  We mighty not be able to change our government by voting, but we can it by praying in the Spirit.  Paul didn't speak only about the breastplate and helmet when speaking about the whole Armor of God in Ephesians 6:18 (Amplified) which says, "Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit with all (manner of) prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding on behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people)."
The weapon of praying in the Holy Spirit is the whole covering of the man of God and not only yourself, but the rest of the Body too because we are one Body.  Before taking this message as controversial, go to the Word of God first and see for yourself what it says.  If God woke you at two in the morning to pray for me, then what would you pray?  Would you pray, "O Lord, heal Brother Jim?"  I didn't need healing.  What would you pray?  Romans 8:26-27 (Amplified) says, "So too the Holy Spirit came to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings (too deep) for utterances. And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the Mind of the Holy Spirit (what His intent is) because the Spirit intercedes and pleads (before God) in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God's will."
You might not know what to pray or how to pray, but the Holy Spirit does and He will pray the "perfect will of God."  This is such a powerful weapon, that satan has fought hard to discourage it among God's people.  Once the Church returns to the ministry of the Holy Spirit, we can pray in the Spirit about our country and God will change the hearts of people with and awakening once more to Him.  Don't allow satan to keep you from the amazing ability to speak directly to the Father in His Own language, which is the "Language of the Spirit."  God can move upon this kind of praying like no other.  Satan can't interfere with this kind of prayer because he can't even understand what is being said.  "You speak not to men, but unto God."
We've spent much of our prayer life speaking in our natural tongue, so that when we pray, satan hears what we're saying as well.  And, satan will immediately set about trying to overthrow what you've said.  But, when you pray in tongues, satan doesn't know what you're praying and thus, can't go against it.  Jesus gave a discourse on fatherhood and how fathers would do good to their own children in Luke 11:13 (Amplified) saying, "If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts (gifts that are to their advantage) to your children, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him?"  We must be continually filled with the Spirit as we grow in Christ Jesus.
Praying in the Spirit has nothing to do with hair, make-up, jewelry or clothing.  It has to do with Who and what you ask.  Ask Him to be filled with or be baptized in the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
